Newsletter – January, 2022

Dear ADRA Members,

We hope this finds you enjoying some of the milder temperatures of late and signs that spring is on its way!
The new year has started off with a number of challenges: the severe weather experienced in the Province, continuation of COVID protocols, and rising food and fuel costs to name a few.  The West Vancouver Seawalk sustained very heavy damage due to the combination of a King tide, high winds, sea surge and logs left on the shore. Through the efforts of DWV staff, the Sea Walk has reopened. The Hollyburn Sailing Club also sustained significant damage but the volunteer members’ response was quick and to the point those feisty sailors are back on the water again!
As we have navigated through these challenging times, a real sense of what our community is all about comes through loud and clear.  Residents continue to step up to the plate to help when and where needed.

Here is an update of events and projects ADRA has been following:

ADRA COMMUNITY OUTREACH

ADRA directors continue their volunteer efforts, to gain as much insight to DWV operations and projects as possible.   Over the past few months, we have met with Councillors Peter Lambur, Sharon Thompson, Bill Soprovich, Marcus Wong and Craig Cameron.  We continue to reach out to Councillor Gambioli and Mayor Booth for a meeting in the next few weeks.  When protocols allowed, we have met in person but most meetings were via Zoom.  ADRA directors, whenever possible, attend meetings of Council, Community Engagement Committee, Design Review Committee, the Arts Facilities Advisory Committee and Finance Committee.

LOCAL AREA PLAN (LAP) – AMBLESIDE

ADRA has been following the proposal to develop a Local Area Plan for Ambleside since the approval of the Official Community Plan in 2018.   On December 13, 2021, Council approved the Terms of Reference and a timeline for the LAP.   ADRA spoke at that time to request representation on the Stakeholder group.  ADRA also stressed the necessity for an open and transparent consultation involving local residents.   Approximately 7300 people live in the LAP area which is divided into three zones: Commercial, Apartment and Single Family.    While it is early on in the process, ADRA is keeping in close contact with Planning and following the Community Engagement Committee which gives direction for community consultation.  Watch for further updates and how you can become involved.
